EXTRACTA PARTNERING POLICY
EXTRACTA seeks dynamic partnerships in accordance with Client interest and the needs of
Company projects. Partnerships with INDUSTRY, with ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS and
GOVERNMENT in specifically funded projects are the main types of effort developed in the
Company.
PARTNERING WITH INDUSTRY
Research Collaboration Contracts relate to bioprospection performed on the EXTRACTA
Bank of Chemical Biodiversity. Such contracts may entail R&D activities fully carried out by
EXTRACTA (as was the case of the recently completed 1999 contract with GlaxoSmithKline,
see News & Landmarks) or carried out in part by the Client at its home labs.
Other partnerships with Industry relate to the characterization of plant drugs and essences
as a basis for development of Phytotherapics and Cosmetics. Such collaboration may encompass
the assembly of specific supply chains and fostering of productive activity in local communities.
PARTNERING WITH ACADEMIA
EXTRACTA network of Academic Partners is strongly based within Rio de Janeiro and specially
involves UFRJ, although it extends to other States and to other countries. This varied assembly
of internationally recognized laboratories open for EXTRACTA R&D interactions in several fields
of its endeavor, such as:
Structural Characterization and Medicinal Chemistry of Bioactive Compounds
Study and Validation of New Targets in Cardiovascular, CNS, Degenerative and Immunological Disease
Innovative Bioassays for HTS and novel technology for Pre-clinical “in vitro” ADMeTox.
Botanical Certification, Natural Compound Profiling and technology development for quality control and
commercial production: Phytotherapics and Cosmeceuticals.
New Materials of interest different segments of Industry
Nanotechnology Applications for the enhancement of Bioactivity of Natural Products
Novel Applications of bioactive plant Small Molecules as markers, inhibitors and modulators in Genomics,
Proteomics, Metabolomics, Tissue Engineering and Stem Cell Research
