Benjamin Gilbert
B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, University of Bristol, UK. Associate Professor, Wayne State University, Michigan and UCLA, USA. In Brazil since 1958, first as visiting researcher at Institute of Agriculture Chemistry, Ministry of Agriculture (1958-63). Professor, Center for Research of Natural Products (UFRJ, 1963-74). Full Researcher and Head of the Biochemistry Group at the Marine Research Institute (1967-85). Scientific Advisor to CODETEC - Technological Development Company in Campinas, SP (1985-94). Researcher at the FIOCRUZ Foundation - Far-Manguinhos, the pharmacology division of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1987-present). Prof. Gilbert has 122 publications among books and specialized journals in Brazil and abroad. He is a correspondent member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, a member of the Chemical Society in London, of the American Chemical Society and of the Brazilian Chemistry Association. Coordinator of the Fine Chemistry and Natural Products Program of the Brazilian Council for Research Development. Committee Activity: WHO International Program on Chemical Safety; International Organization for Chemical Development - UNESCO. Several honours, medals and commendations in Brazil.
