Angelo da Cunha Pinto

Graduate in Pharmacy-Biochemistry at the School of Pharmacy at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ (The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). He obtained his MSc. at the Military Institute of Engineering in Rio de Janeiro and he did his Ph.D. at the Institute of Chemistry at UFRJ. With over 180 published papers in national and foreign specialized magazines, Prof. Pinto has participated in several committees for research and development in Chemistry. Presently he is a full Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the UFRJ. He is the editor of "Química Nova" a periodic magazine published by the Brazilian Chemical Society and the editor of the Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society. Prof. Pinto is associate director for the graduate program of the Institute of Chemistry at UFRJ. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. In 1995 he was named the Chemist of the year by the Labor Union of Chemists and Chemical Engineers. In 1997 he was awarded with the Simão Mathias Medal given by the Brazilian Chemical Society. He also was awarded with the Theinboldt-Hauptman prize given by the Institute of Chemistry of the University of São Paulo-USP. On 1998 he was awarded with the Commend of the National Order for Scientific Merit.
